Kenney Orthopedics offers continuing education courses to medical professionals. Both courses listed below provide CEUs for those who qualify and attend. For more information about either course and how you can attend please visit our Events page or email mdilorenzo@kenneyorthopedics.com.

Amputee Walking School (2, 3 & 5 CEUs) - Designed for Physical Therapists

This course provides training in advanced amputee exercises appropriate for all levels and abilities. Those who attend will be introduced to the dynamics of prosthetic devices and how to properly control them. As a result, therapists gain necessary skills to help advance their amputee patients to the next level, and amputees learn how to use their prosthesis more effectively, enabling them to interact with their environment with more confidence. This course offers a unique opportunity for collaboration between amputees and therapists. Amputees of all ages and abilities, even those who do not yet have a prosthesis, are encouraged to attend.

Fundamental Movement Skills for Lower Limb Amputees (4 CEUs) - Designed for Physical Therapists

This course is a lecture and lab experience applying the concepts of kinesiology to the limb loss patient population by reducing prosthetic rehabilitation down to the building blocks of movement. Therapists will be educated on the anatomical alterations after amputation, explaining the biomechanics and metabolic challenges that develop secondary to alteration to the kinetic chain. Therapists will learn interventions to address kinematic dysfunction affecting to deficits in the 3 skill labs: object manipulation, anatomical authority, and locomotion stability.

Continuing Education Courses (1 CEU) - Designed for Physical Therapists, these courses are available virtually and in-person.

Prosthetics & Orthotics: Benefits of a Team Approach and Early Intervention (1 CEU)

This course outlines the benefits of collaboration and shared decision making when working with patients who require custom prosthetic and/or orthotic devices.  It also demonstrates the impact of early intervention on patient health and overall healthcare costs.  Finally, insurance and documentation issues are discussed.

Adult Lower Extremity Orthotic Management (1 CEU)

This course will aid therapists in understanding the indications for different orthotic styles in adult patients. It will also review modifications that can be made to address specific presentations. This course will improve therapists’ ability to determine if a patient is an orthotic candidate and, if so, what orthosis may best address a patient’s needs.

AFO Tuning (1 CEU)

The primary way to address contractures is through the AFO-Footwear Combination. AFO Tuning can promote proper alignment to aid in ambulation and improve muscle length to address contractures long term.

Amputee Post Operative Care (1 CEU)

This course will aid therapists in understanding the prosthetist’s role in post operative care and post operative dressing options. We will also discuss contracture and pain management. It will educate on the importance of early ambulation and pre-prosthetic physical therapy.

Prosthetic Gait Deviations (1 CEU)

This course will provide physical therapists with knowledge of gait deviations exhibited by amputees. It will aid therapists in understanding the muscular and prosthetic causes of different deviations. It will also review the requisites of gait as well as principles of prosthetic alignment. This course will improve therapists’ ability to parse out the cause of gait deviations to enhance their ability to treat amputee patients.

Prosthetic Knees (1 CEU)

This course will aid therapists in understanding the biomechanics and function of various classes of prosthetic knees. The course will also discuss different reasons why each class of prosthetic knee is prescribed for patient activity levels. It will educate therapists on cues to aid their patients in successfully manipulating a prosthetic knee.

Pediatric Lower Extremity Orthoses (1 CEU)

This course will provide physical therapists with knowledge of lower limb orthotic treatment options for pediatric patients. It will aid therapists in understanding when to refer a child for orthotic intervention. The course will also discuss different pediatric presentations and bracing possibilities. It will educate therapists on orthotic technology.

Pediatric Prosthetics (1 CEU)

This course will provide physical therapists with knowledge of pediatric amputations and prosthetic treatment options. It will aid therapists in understanding prosthetic componentry. The course will also discuss different pediatric presentations and prosthetic technologies.

Scoliosis (1 CEU)

This course will provide physical therapists with knowledge of scoliosis and orthotic treatment options. It will aid therapists in understanding when to refer a child for orthotic intervention. The course will also discuss different pediatric presentations and bracing possibilities. It will educate therapists on the different scoliosis etiologies and orthotic options.

Cranial Remolding Helmets (1 CEU)

This course will provide physical therapists with knowledge of Cranial Remolding treatment options for plagiocephaly & brachycephaly. It will aid therapists in understanding when to refer a child for orthotic intervention. The course will educate therapists on etiology & treatment timelines.
